I have committed myself to the urging of Romans 12:1. My heart studies the mercies of God. My body, my being, is my gift to God; I am newly alive, a living sacrifice. God’s delight and joyous smile assure me of his pleasure.
I have followed the path. Where does it lead? Like Abraham sent to an unknown country where he constructed an altar, I travel on. This new landscape comes into view. I see my new way to live.
“This is your true and proper worship” (Romans 12:1).
Is it possible: I have become the temple of God, the center of worshipping him (I Cor. 6:19).
Yet have I missed something; “present your bodies.” I am not alone. You are with me. We travel to the new country together!
–Lord, a deep relationship with you includes relationships with each other, bound together in a life of worshipful service. Thank you for the gift of one another.
–Lord, your intent is to combine our “bodies as a living sacrifice” into one, united body, a word in flesh (John 1:14, logos). We are not capable. Empower us, O Lord.
— Lord, teach us worshipful service, grounded in clear thinking and elevated by spiritual reality. Make us ministers of “true and proper” (logikos) devotion, O Lord.
