When my divorce became public knowledge, it was a devastating moment. There had never been a divorce in my family, and the family did not know what to do with me. For months, I did not hear from them. Some people I had known for years seemed to respond with concern and interest. Sometime later I discovered that they were primarily gleaning information to enlarge and embellished as they gossiped across the phone lines. But there were some people who knew how to help.
