Today, the Winter Solstice delivers the longest, darkest day of the year. I’m reminded that Christ arrived in the long, dark night of the world’s winter of sin and death. Christ brought the light of a New Hope and the vision of a New World.
—The birth of Jesus brought light: “shepherds … keeping watch over their flocks at night. . . and the glory of the Lord shone around them” (Luke 2:8-9)
—The resurrection of Jesus gave sight: “Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark. . . the stone had been removed. . . He saw and believed” (John 20:1, 8).
What began at his birth was completed through the cross and his resurrection.
