Saturday, Shirley and I were at the Georgia District Church of the Nazarene “Improve Your Serve” event. The event was held at the Warner Robins Church of the Nazarene. It was a day of empowering training and encouragement for Sunday School Teachers and others who volunteer in the ministry of the church.
The seminar I presented was titled “The Joyous Burden of Teaching Sunday School.” Speaking as a professor of education and (more importantly) a Sunday School Teacher, the challenge of teaching is both a joy and a burden.
(I notice that First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Pheonix, AZ has celebrated the third week of October as “Sunday School Teacher Appreciation Day for almost 20 years.)
Let me share a little work of encouragement – find a way to express your appreciation to your Sunday School Teacher. Each one carries the burden as well as the joy of preparing a lesson for you each week.
